AirBNB: The New Place to Stay

The Mid-Hudson Valley has always drawn visitors looking to explore its state parks, enjoy its farm-to-table eateries and breweries, and take in all the beauty and recreational activities it has to offer. Short-term rentals are now boosting visitations by making it easier and cheaper for visitors to the study area, and helping homeowners make a few extra dollars by renting to guests.

According to Airbnb, the Seattle-based home-sharing hospitality company, as many as 4,260 hosts in the study area welcomed about 350,000 guests into their houses and earned approximately $55 million in 2018. Ulster County attracted the most visitors – 149,800 – that brought in a whopping $24.4 million in supplemental income for 1,800 hosts. A typical Ulster County host earned $8,200 through Airbnb rental income.
