The development pattern in Orange County is generally suburban with some sections of high-density urban development. The three cities in the county, Newburgh, Middletown, and Port Jervis, all represent pockets of high population density in the county. Several villages throughout the county also have high population densities, especially the Village of Kiryas Joel, which is about 1.4 square miles in size and has a population of over 24,000.
Data Note: The dots on the map do not reflect exact locations of people. Density is calculated by census tract, and the dots are distributed randomly within the tract. Each dot represents 10 people. Villages and Hamlets are labeled only where there is a census tract that aligns with its borders.
