Putnam County is one of the smallest counties in New York State. Its small size gives the county a relatively high overall population density compared to other counties in the state. There are pockets of population density in the county centered around several hamlets such as Lake Carmel in the eastern side of the Town of Kent, and Mahopac in the southwest corner of the Town of Carmel. Another pocket of residential density can be found in the Village of Cold Spring, located on the banks of the Hudson River, which has direct access to the MTA.
Data Note: The dots on the map do not reflect exact locations of people. Density is calculated by census tract, and the dots are distributed randomly within the tract. Each dot represents 10 people. Villages and Hamlets are labeled only where there is a census tract that aligns with its borders.
